Blood Pressure Matters Health Symposium will bring together local, regional and national hypertension control experts, community leaders and residents from across metro Detroit and nationally to develop collaborations and implement a promotional campaign to support the HTN initiative. Former CDC Director, Tom Friedan, Dr. Shamarial Roberson, former Secretary of Health for the State of Florida and current President of Health and Human Services for Indelible; Cassandra McCullough, CEO of the American Black Cardiologists, and others along with stroke survivor, comedian Rodney Perry will be on the panel to discuss this important topic.

  • Measure Accurately: Fostering Equity and Hypertension Control During COVID-19 and Beyond

  • Partner with Patients, Families, Communities: Addressing Social Determinants of Health and Promoting Health Equity with Hypertension Control Efforts

 

A Collab Lounge

  • A place where community partners, doctor’s offices, community members can learn about ways to help support the initiative, pick up promotional materials and receive the Know. Act. Control. Toolkit.

LOVE Songs: A Concert for A Cause Celebrating National Heart Month

On February 19 th music and love will fill the air! For the first-time ever in Detroit join Grammy-Award winner Norman Connors in his all-star tribute to the late singer Phyllis Hyman in a night of music you will never forget. This fantastic event will also include a performance by The Luther Vandross Experience featuring Danny Clay as we celebrate National Heart Month in partnership with Resolve.

Cut The Hype Barbershop Tour

Potential Timeframe: May 1-May 30
May 1: National Black Barber Shop Appreciation Day
May 17: World Hypertension Day
Location: 50 Barbershops throughout Metro Detroit


The Cut the Hype Barbershop Tour is a traveling discussion with medical professionals, community activists, and hypertension survivors. The tour will begin in May and will feature weekly visits to local barbershops where we will provide lunch and free gifts to patrons. Barbershop appointment app, The Buzz to help us spread the word as well as Scotch Porter, a national brand men’s personal care brand will supply gifts for participants.

Hope & Humor Comedy Show

It only takes 20 minutes of laughter to improve your health. We will host a free comedy show featuring national comedians Rodney Perry, HB Sanders, and others. This family-friendly event will encourage attendees to sign up for the campaign, give them useful information and allow them to have a great evening of edu-tainment!
